現在、ロンドン・オーバーグラウンド・ネットワークは6つのルートで、113の駅をカバーしているが、オーバーグラウンドの乗客が、迷わず利用できるように、今回新たに6つのルートそれぞれに独自の路線名と色を付けたとのこと。路線の乗り換え時に場所や旅程がわかりやすくなったと利用者から反響が良いようだ。

【オーバーグラウンドの新しい路線名と、その意味についての簡単な説明】

  • The Lioness line（黄色）: Euston駅とWatford junction駅間で運行, named after England’s Lionesses national football team.イングランドのサッカー代表チーム「ライオネス」にちなんで名付けられた。
  • The Mildmay line（青）: Stratford駅とRichmond駅／Clapham Junction駅間で運行。Shoreditchにある慈善病院にちなんで名付けられた。named after a charitable hospital in Shoreditch.　
  • The Windrush line（赤）: Highbury & Islington駅とClapham Junction駅／New Cross駅／Crystal Palace駅／West Croydon駅間で運行。Windrush世代とその遺産にちなんで名付けられた。named after the Windrush generation and their legacy.
  • The Weaver line（栗色）: Liverpool Street駅とEnfield Town駅／Cheshunt駅／Chingford駅間で運行。東ロンドンの歴史的な繊維産業にちなんで名付けられた。, named after the historic textile trade of east London.
  • The Suffragette line（緑）: Gospel Oak駅とBarking Riverside駅間で運行。英国で女性の参政権を求めて戦ったSuffragette運動にちなんで名付けられた。named after the Suffragette movement who fought for the vote for women in the UK. You can find out more about the history of the Suffragette line here.
  • The Liberty line（グレー）: Romford駅とUpminster駅間で運行。この線が通るHaveringロンドン自治区の人々の歴史的な独立にちなんで名付けられた。, named after the historical independence of the people of Havering (which the line runs through).
